Alumni of Macquarie

Hi,

Macquarie University is a world renown higher education facility so it makes sense that some of the graduates of the university have gone on to be quite well known and famous. In this post I will give you a peek into some of the people and their stories as well as showing you how Macquarie can help you to become one in the future.

Macquarie has a wide range of areas that students can study in, therefore there are many fields in which Macquarie graduates have excelled. These include science, arts and media, business, politics and community initiatives.

The Wiggles is an Australian children's band, known for their catchy songs and energetic live performances, some of the founding members of The Wiggles went to Macquarie to study teaching. Murray, Greg and Anthony went to the university to gain diploma's of education as they were preschool teachers before starting the band. Their great service to their industry including many albums, awards and induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame, led the performers received honorary Doctorates from the university.

Other outstanding alumni that work in media include: Peter Overton (news anchor), Margaret Pomeranz (film reviewer) and Chris Liley (actor and comedian).

Macquarie has great business programs, that gives real world experience. Some of the most innovative new companies were started in Australia by alumni of Macquarie. Napolean Perdis and wife/business partner Soula-Marie both studied at Macquarie and went on to found a cosmetics company 'Napolean Perdis' whose products are sold all around Australia, and is a favourite of so many celebrities and women. Other companies of note that have been started by Macquarie alumni include textbook reselling website Zookal and group buying website Spreets.

So by now you are wondering how to become successful like these alumni. My first tip is studying something that you are passionate about so that uni work is enjoyable and exciting. Next make friends and connections with people at the uni because they help you find your first job after you graduate. Finally and most importantly participate in PACE (Professional and Community Engagement) and networking events on campus because meeting industry leaders is a great way to get a leg up in the job market.
